Here is a magnificent Antique French JUMEAU Bebe Doll of approximately 30”
Known as the DEP Doll, made in approximately 1898, She is a product of the 19th C. with her Head commissioned by Jumeau from Simon Halbig prior to joining the French SFBJ, in 1899 approximately. Her original antique body is also Jumeau during that time period.
Condition: Gorgeous Bisque Head has no chips, no cracks, no hairlines, and no repairs and no restorations. Interior rim of head has an in the manufacture chip to the edge of the inner rim, not a damage. Body was repainted and/or varnished long ago and varnish has darkened to a golden hue. Original dark blue eyes sleep, lids have been repainted. Her stringing still seems very good. She can hold poses.
This beautiful doll has the incised DEP Mark, only, on the back of her Bisque head, with size 14, with no other incised or stamped marks. She has no markings for Simon Halbig, not any other markings. This doll is known as the Jumeau DEP Doll.
The sculpting of her exquisite Bisque head is crisply beautiful, with such lovely and deeply defined first from the mold Features: her eyes are beautifully and evenly cut in a classic long almond shape, somewhat deeply set, creating a shy and mysterious cast to her gaze, her nose has a softly tipped and sweetly shaped button effect as a young Bebe would have, and she has long deep rounded cheeks, a firm chin with dimple and molding emphasis, a mouth that appears on the point of speaking or smiling, with deeper red defining outlines, molded open with 4 bisque inset teeth and a deeply sculpted philtrum.
Her gorgeous Bisque Head incised DEP 14 has Hand Painted features by a masterful skilled artisan, including lovely sweeping multi-stroke eye brows, artistically hand painted mouth with a heart shaped, delicately deep coral outlined and accented coral lips, beautiful antique original hand blown deep dark Navy Blue blown glass striated eyes that sleep and each eye has a plethora of delicately and refined hand painted straight eye lashes on the lower lids. Her eyelids have been repainted. She has eye dot accents at the inner corners of each eye and her nostrils that exactly match the outlining of her lips.
She has piercings in her lovely sculpted ears. Her earrings are small antique drops of gold colored blown glass with flecks of tangerine colored glass “snow”!
Her lovely original but repainted French composition and wood body has jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and knees. She has a strip of leather which covers over where her torso was originally divided to install a voice box as well as a circular opening in her back, and the 2 openings for MamaPapa pull strings in the front. (no voicebox is extant). The bottoms of her feet each have 14 incised on her soles, which match the 14 size number on her head.
Her deep espresso brunette antique human hair wig is in long locks, slightly waved, cascading down her back, which compliments her beautiful brunette brows and both painted lower lashes and her hair upper dark lashes as well. ( Eyelids repainted). The wig is antique and could be original.
I imported her from the Netherlands and her clothing has a 19th C baroque flair that I would immediately identify as the Continental doll dress fashion. She wears a magnificent Court Gown: a monochromatic gown of refined antique gold hand made lace under which is a chemise of antique embroidered lace dyed golden, and the gown is trimmed in a myriad of assorted antique laces with antique lace at the edges, sleeves, cuffs, bretelles, neck, with a contrasting antique French insert of incredible hand-strung and sewn passementerie to define the bodice, with ribbons and lace and a cascade of antique silk macrame’ ending in a plethora of streamers, an antique replaced whitework lace trimmed petticoat and full Length antique fine Swiss cotton chemise with delicately beautiful whitework embroidery at the buttoned bodice and hemline and vintage replaced linen bloomers with hand crocheted lace, a replaced net crinoline to help shape the gown ( boy do I remember those scratchy beasts!), an antique wired bonnet of laces and netting, and lace beige silk and cotton lace stockings and original antique golden brown kid leather slippers that tie across the ankle ( one shoe has a mend in the back). Her shoes have the original French silk Pom Pom type ornaments on them. I think there is enough lace in this costume to make a lace maker or lace collector very happy, as well as an antique doll collector very happy to have her in all her glory.
Her last photo (#12) shows her in a black and pink velvet bonnet she is modeling. The black bonnet is not included and can be found offered in another listing.
She is an antique of approximately 120 years old. Do not purchase her if you are expecting this doll to be in “like new perfect conditions”, or “minty-mint” etc. Although her condition is very good indeed, she has some expected play wear, some areas of worn or possibly missing paint around joints, or scratches or dents ( such as you see in her torso) from being placed upon and being removed from stands, etc. She may have inherent, in the manufacture minor or minute imperfections in her Bisque such as is common in antique Bisque. I try to mention everything I see but I might overlook something, so please be aware that her photos are a highly important and integral part of her description and your examination of the photos will tell you much more than I can write about the condition of the doll. I have numerous other photos as well as am willing to take requested particular pictures for you so you can better determine if this is the doll of your dreams! I am limited to 12 photos posted here so please ask to see others, such as back of body or close ups! Please just ask.

She is very large, chunky and Heavy and the shipping costs will reflect her weight and size. EBAY uses a price calculator to determine shipping that often is less than what I actually have to pay from my own pocket. The insurance fee is not calculated by eBay into this amount. Due to her value and fragility she cannot be shipped at a discounted rate.
