Description
AnUNKNOWN MAKER
fountain pen, yet of high quality and classic 1930's look and styling, in very attractive and smooth green & black marbled celluloid resin, that shows nice aging coloration to barrel. Another decadent gem from the seller's (shrinking) trove of family fountain pens!
Seller would be pleased to learn the identity of this pen
, the overall condition of which to the seller's eyes is very good to fine.
Seller and several experts he has consulted via photos think this pen to be American, and 80+ years old. If it isn't rare it is certainly uncommon and unfamiliar, perhaps even unheard of. Is it one of a kind? Who can say?!
One eBay member opined that the pen is "likely a small, obscure sub-brand of some prominent US manufacturer in the 30's."
This pen features lever fill. Currently that
lever does not operate
, and seller has neither removed nor attempted to remove the nib to open the barrel. That said,
pen undoubtedly needs cleaning and a new ink sac/bladder
. The cap interior appears clean.
There is NO barrel or cap imprint or other markings--none--that seller can see. Pocket clip shows a distinctive feather logo with a "W."
A
14K gold replacement nib reads "Warranted 14K 8 "
. Note that the nib replacement might have been more finely and artfully done.
Dipped into ink, the pen nib seems to seller to write medium fine.
Some of gold plating on the fill lever, the pocket clip, and on the two cap trim rings is worn off. Substrate metal appears to be brass.
Pen is 5 1/8 inches long closed, 6 3/16 inches long posted to write.
Pen is clean, with no cracks, chips, or personal engravings. Pen does show normal usage wear to barrel and cap, some slight cap scuffing, and several very small indentations to the end of the barrel. It is of course
offered here "as-is."
Seller has long enjoyed fountain pens but is
NOT
a fountain pen expert, collector, restorer, or appraiser, so he has described this pen here to the best of his knowledge and ability. He thanks a circle of eBay members for attempting an identification of the maker, and for the insights they have provided into the interests of collectors.
Please see my photographs, taken in natural lighting, as they complete the description of this pen.
