Turtle iconography has been celebrated in ancient and popular culture across the world. There are many legends and beliefs that surround the Turtle from the ancient folklore of North American indigenous cultures which believed that the world rested on the back of a great giant turtle; to the contemporary custom of regarding turtles as auspicious Feng Shui symbols by the Chinese. Traditional Japanese revere the Turtle as the God Kumpira, protecting those navigating the high seas while Ancient Greek and Roman folklore documents the Turtle as the symbol of the Goddess Aphrodite and Venus.
