Rhodium Model Designed Not to Dry Out Is Newly Released
from the #3776 CENTURY Series Fountain Pen
Cool Look with a Popular Style of Silver Decoration on Metallic Part
On June 1, 2015, Platinum Pen Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President: Toshiya Nakata) will start sales of the rhodium models of “Black diamond” and “Chartres blue” from the “#3776 CENTURY series,” which is our representative fountain pen known for “not drying out.” It is a higher grade model, which the nib and metallic parts are decorated with classy rhodium.
Rhodium finish is a coating using a rhodium, a valuable precious metal. It is also known as platinum coating or platinum finish. In appearance, a silver color glow, which is also applied in a lot of jewelries, provides more of the sophisticated look than a gold color when the pen clip is seen in your chest pocket. Also, rhodium has a lot of benefits in terms of functions such as its level of hardness, which is resistant to scratches and guarantees durability and brilliance for a long time. To appreciate these factors, a use of rhodium is very suitable for a fountain pen.
Although a gold pen is a common image of a fountain pen, recently, a silver decoration is gaining popularity regardless of gender. In order to meet customer needs, we have prepared two colors of a rhodium finish barrel.
The “Black diamond” was made particular in a texture of the barrel, incorporating a factor as jewelry to make it suitable as a writing instrument for adults. A black diamond is applied as a motif providing a unique black deep translucent barrel. At a glance, it appears to be a shiny black barrel. However, a transparent material is used in a barrel, so inside the barrel is seen through in the degree of light creating a mysterious image of a black diamond.
The “Chartres blue” has incorporated the image of the blue color of the stained glasses in the Chartres Cathedral in France, which are said to be the most beautiful glasses in the world. The Chartres Cathedral is one of the three major cathedrals in France and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The stained glasses that have a historic value are from the 11th to the 13th centuries and are known worldwide for their beauty. Particularly, the blue color, which is illuminated by light, expresses both deep and clear feelings and it is called “Chartres blue.” It emanates an impressive brightness, which is nowhere near as other colors making a strong impression on one. The model was made with the image of the sacred color.

The innovative cap contains a unique “Slip & Seal” mechanism that prevents ink from drying out in the pen. Meanwhile, a newly redesigned nib and feed regulate the ink flow. Founded in 1919, Platinum Pens is now nearing a full century of achievement. The #3776 “Century” celebrates this approaching anniversary and continues Platinum Pens’ tradition of technological innovation. With Platinum Pens, the pleasure of writing and the use of fine writing instruments will always be evolving.
The #3776“ Century” Fountain Pen What qualities make for the ideal contemporary fountain pen? Sleek design, comfortable writing balance, smooth flow, and fast-drying ink… At the request of customers, we at Platinum Pen have gone back to the basics to address these issues. Every part and mechanism has been carefully studied and re-engineered. The result is the #3776 “Century,” designed on the base model of the popular #3776 series pens.
◆SLIP & SEAL MECHANISM
It has normally been thought difficult to make an airtight pen with a screw-type cap. If not sealed tightly, the following problems can result:
1.
Ink drying out due to moisture evaporation.
2.
Problems with dried ink if the pen is not used for three to six months.
3.
It can be necessary to clean the pen using our
Ink Cleaner Kit
or even to repair or replace the nib itself if the damage due to dried ink is too severe.
At the request of customers, we at Platinum Pen Company have gone back to the basics to deal with this problem. This is the first fountain pen which has our unique “Slip & Seal” structure in a pen with a screw-type cap. Thanks to this innovation, currently being patented, it is possible to have a screw-type cap with complete airtightness.
About the Platinum #3776 Fountain Pen
The original #3776 series was designed by the late writing expert Haruo Umeda, known as “Mr.Fountain Pen,” along with the design team at Platinum Pen Company. Their aim was simple- to create the ideal fountain pen.
The #3776 was made available to the public beginning in 1978. After just six months, over 150,000 pens had been sold, and its popularity has been maintained ever since. #3776 expresses the height in meters of Mt. Fuji, the highest and most beautiful peak in Japan.
We Platinum Co., has started to solve these problems more than five years ago. We made several samples of a nib and feeder according to 40,000 writing data of
Nakaya
(Platinum's subsidiary). From 2009
to 2011
, we have updated alm

Even 20 years later, they will be able to make a difficult decision as a responsible person. Then, he or she may open this package and find the courage from a clear message with clarity of pigment ink by Platinum. This is just like a time capsule for former students and alumni associations for their own enduring information.
We continue testing , however dye ink has faded significantly in two months.

About Us
Pilot History
Ryosuke Namiki, who was an alumnus and professor of Tokyo Nautical School, successfully invented a gold writing tip for fountain pens and established Namiki Manufacturing Co., Ltd., in 1918 with 200,000 yen in capital to start the production and sales of fountain pens. Namiki 's success owed to the collaboration from his friend and classmate Masao Wada. In 1938, the corporate name was changed to the Pilot Pen Co., Ltd., as the company grew.
Pilot means a pathfinder who proceeds at the head of a large ship. A ring buoy, the company emblem, stands for the spirit of overcoming difficulties to be unsinkable in a rough sea and the strong ties of friendship. In succeeding years, our products, such as fountain pens, mechanical pencils, roller ball pens, and marking pens, evolved to be widely used in foreign markets. Thereby, the corporate brand of Pilot became famous as high-quality Pilot and regarded as a synonym for writing instruments. However, our voyage up to the present date was never easy. We had to overcome thousands of wild waves.
In 1989, due to our strategy of business diversification, the corporate name was changed to Pilot Corporation. In January 2002, Pilot Group Holdings Corporation was established by stock transfer, jointly from Pilot Corporation, The Pilot Ink Co., Ltd., and The Pilot Precision Co., Ltd., for business restructuring of the group. As a part of the restructuring, the corporate name was changed to PILOT CORPORATION after the merger of Pilot Group Holdings Corporation and Pilot Corporation in July 2003. The merger was a source of an operating holding company with functions of mobile sales, product planning, and production in addition to the original function of management strategies for group companies. In 2008, PILOT CORPORATION merged with The Pilot Precision Co., Ltd., for the purpose of improving cost competitiveness and technological development capabilities in the writing instruments business by swiftly uniting production functions and manpower in the group. By the full use of strong brands, high technical and product capabilities, as well as excellent manpower, PILOT CORPORATION seeks to grow largely as a leader of the Pilot Group.
