Rashaan Salaam was a former college and NFL running back who won the 1994 Heisman Trophy while playing for the Colorado Buffaloes. He was incredible in 1994, rushing for 2055 yards, including one game with a Colorado record 362 yards in total offense. Rashaan led Colorado to a No.3 final ranking and a victory in the Fiesta Bowl. That same year, Rashaan was an unanimous All-American winning the Doak Walker and Walter Camp Awards, as well as being named the Sporting News Player of the Year. He left Colorado after his Junior year and was selected by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft. In 1995, Rashaan rushed for over 1000 yards and was named the UPI NFC Rookie of the Year. However, after that season injuries took a toll and only played four other seasons in the NFL. Despite several attempted comebacks, Rashaan never came close to attaining the heights he had attained in college. After football, Rashaan continued to struggle and sadly passed away in 2016. His death was ruled a suicide. As sad his was end was, Rashaan's 1994 season was one of the most brilliant ever by a college player.
